In 2008, Amy Constable rescued her first printing press from a chicken shed in Moe and lovingly restored it back to working order. Eight years and six presses later, Amy is joined at Saint Gertrude by her husband John and the studio now has a vast specialty print offering.
Since 2013, Saint Gertrude has run monthly Introduction to Letterpress Classes and an Open Access Studio Program; a learning opportunity so rare that it attracts students from all over Australia and the world. But for those who prefer to keep their hands clean, we collaborate with and print for an impressive client base.
Amy is one half of the collaborative Ladies of Letters project with her studio mate Carla Hackett; a social enterprise business raising money for the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation.

Turnaround: for new clients, the turnaround is usually around 2-3 weeks from supply of finished artwork and payment of a 50% deposit. Large, experimental or or complicated projects may take longer.

Monthly Beginners' Letterpress Class are held in Saint Gertrude's beautiful and light-filled studio. You need absolutely no design or printmaking experience to attend a class with Saint Gertrude, and you will leave with a deep appreciation and understanding of the process of modern letterpress printing, the history of print and a swag of letterpress goodies. Private Letterpress Classes can also be arranged for designers and illustrators who wish to begin working with letterpress. You will learn how to set-up and operate a manual printing press and leave with a letterpress project of your own design. Book a class.
